CYTOTOXIC

Rheumatoid Arthritis changed my life many years ago. I went from someone who hated needles to someone who injected herself every week. The first time I noticed the bright red letter on the bottle my first reaction was to Google the word CYTOTOXIC. I don’t know why because, as a biology major in college, I knew CYTO means cell and we all know that TOXIC means bad. My medicine is TOXIC to my cells! Even writing it now sounds incredible. I inject a TOXIC agent into my body every week. The medicine suppresses my immune system so that it doesn’t attack my joints. This also means that it is not as good as attacking pathogens that enter my body. I have good and bad days and when I have good days I have to be thankful that there is a medicine that is able to help me even if it is TOXIC.
